Practice
Philosophy
The Philosophy of
our practice is to provide optimal periodontal health care and
implant surgery to our patients through a team effort. We strive
to render treatment on an individual, caring, and personalized
basis in a relaxed and professional atmosphere. A unified effort
by our periodontal healthcare team will enable us to achieve our
goal providing superior care to our patients. We strive to learn
from our current experiences and continue to integrate
innovations necessary for our improvement and growth.
What is a
Periodontist?
A periodontist is
a dentist who has become a specialist in diagnosing and treating
diseases of the gum and bone that support the teeth. A
periodontist also specializes in the placement of dental
implants. After completing four years of dental school, there is
an additional
three years of specialty training. Dr.
Forrest
continues to update his knowledge each year by taking additional
courses at dental universities and professional meetings.
Our Methods
Examination,
Diagnosis, and Consultation
First we will
get acquainted with you and your past dental and medical
history. If you need X-rays, they will be taken.
Then we will do a complete examination of your mouth, including
measuring of periodontal pockets (in millimeters), and
examination of your X-rays. We may need to take
impressions of your teeth for further study. These
procedures help us determine how healthy your mouth is, or to
what extent it has been damaged. This will usually be
accomplished on the first appointment.
You will be
advised at your second appointment of our findings.
Using the
diagnostic information, we will work out details and the sequence of
your special treatment. We will then be able to answer any
questions you may have concerning your treatment, the time it
will take, and what it will cost.
Save Time in
Our Office
Patients are
encouraged to fill out and bring our Medical History Form and
Periodontal Form for your appointment.

Digital Dental
X-rays: high tech, high value
Digital
X-rays replaced standard Dental X-rays in our office in 1999.
One of the benefits of digital X-ray technology is that you get
instant images that are viewed on a computer. You don't have to
develop the X-rays film as you do with standard X-rays. A sensor
is used instead of dental X-ray film which allows us to produce
images with approximately 70% less radiation to the patient.
We also do not
have to worry about any of the processing, the film, or the
processing liquids that normally have to be disposed. The
liquids are an environmental hazard. Very importantly, X-ray
film is never misfiled or lost. The images are stored on a hard
drive and can be retrieved and printed on paper instantly, or
emailed to another dentist or insurance company. They can be
easily stored forever. Dr. Forrest has a back up system to
insure that the images will never be lost.
The digital
system also can zoom in on problem areas. There are tools built
into the software that improve the analysis of the images. This
is not possible with traditional X-ray film. You get more
information with less radiation.
Digital X-rays
helps us educate our patients. We can easily show our patients
problems that they may be having with their teeth. It's easy to
show these using a digital X-ray, whereas with X-ray film it's
harder for the patients to see anything. Being able to blow up
the images on the computer monitor so the patient can see and
understand the problem, is a tremendous advantage.
The quality of
digital X-rays compares favorably with X-ray film. It is
particularly useful to have digital capability when performing
implant surgery because you can check your progress often with
very little radiation. This provides a great safety factor for
the patient. When you need to wait 5 to 8 minutes to develop a
traditional film and when each film has more radiation exposure
than a digital image, you naturally take less X-rays during a
procedure.
Another plus is
the elimination of processing errors with digital X-rays. When
doing a large amount of film processing for many patients in a
day, film quality can become poor because the solutions wear out
and deteriorate. It is generally not possible to change the
solutions and clean the processor during the day. With digital
X-rays, there are always consistency and excellent image
quality.
Protect
Tomorrow, Today
Most people want
to keep their own natural teeth all of their lives. They
also want (or must have) low dental bills while keeping their
teeth attractive and comfortable. Plans, well-made
today, can make this possible.
The prevention of
dental disease is the primary objective of this office.
Most of our efforts will be directed toward this end.
Dr. Forrest has
written and illustrated a pamphlet explaining the effective
control of dental disease. You can obtain this pamphlet by

Every Patient
Deserves Attention
Each patient is
treated as an individual in our office. We want you to have as
much time as you need to discuss your treatment plan, and to
have answered any questions you may have. A patient seen before
you may take additional time, but be assured that you will be
given the same courtesy during your appointment. We do not like
to cut one patient's time short.
We Work As a
Team
Dr.
Forrest is the primary part of our periodontal team, but our
hygienists, assistants and front office play significant roles.
Coordinating these team members schedules can be a challenge,
but you are guaranteed an excellent outcome.
Fees
Fees are based
on the time spent with you and the dental procedure
rendered. If you have any questions regarding fees, and/or
alternate payment schedules, the front desk coordinator will be
glad to discuss them with you.
Insurance
We will assist
you in filling out the claims for payment by your insurance
company, providing the forms are uniform and in accordance with
the standards of the Health Insurance Association of
America. We shall report only what is to be performed and
when it was done. It will be a true and accurate report
from our office records.
The amount you
receive from your insurance company depends solely on the terms
of your contract with that company. Health insurance is a
contract between the insurer and the insured. Therefore,
the patient is responsible for full payment of all charges not
covered by their insurance policy.
Cancellation
of Appointments
If you cannot
keep an appointment, reasonable notice (at least 48 hours)
should be given to our office to cancel your appointment.
This allows us to be able to give this time to another patient.
